Celebrate World Water Day with a trip with the Department of Geography
On Saturday, 22 March, celebrate this year’s World Water Day by walking along the Vodobraní route. Thanks to our colleagues, the SMART project has created a unique Vodobraní route to reference the history and importance of water not only in our landscape, but also for the development of society.
This route, which is almost 29 km long, leads from the pumping station in Dolní Zálezly, where water is drawn from the Elbe, over Dubický Hill to the information centre of the Ledvice Power Plant. The tourist route largely follows the industrial water pipeline, but in some places it deviates from it due to the absence of parallel roads. Although the majority of the water pipeline runs underground, in some parts you can see important parts rising to the surface. The 27-kilometre-long industrial water pipeline was built in 1942 and still serves its purpose. It originally supplied water from Dolní Zálezel to the chemical factory in Záluží (chemical plant in Litvínov), and nowadays it supplies water to the power plant in Ledvice.
On March 22, 2025 we will go to its shortened part, from Ohníč. At the end of the route we will visit the Ledvice power plant and the highest lookout tower in the Czech Republic – the roof of the boiler house.
If you feel like it, come with us. We will meet at the Ohníč train station at 9:05 am on Saturday, March 22. The event is organized by the Department of Geography, Faculty of Science, UJEP.
