High school students researched and discovered again at the Faculty of Science, UJEP
On Thursday, October 9, 2025, the second round of the interactive day Discover, Explore, Innovate took place at the Faculty of Science of the University of Jan Evangelista Purkyně in Ústí nad Labem, which again attracted over 80 pupils and students from secondary schools and high schools from the entire Ústí nad Labem Region.
The aim of the event was to introduce young people to the world of natural sciences, modern technologies, and the university environment through entertaining and practical workshops, lectures, and demonstrations from a wide range of fields offered by the faculty.
Participants tried their hand at creating video games, microscopic observation, and making ice cream from liquid nitrogen. There were also demonstrations of modern laboratory techniques, an introduction to how mathematicians think, and practical geography with the creation of 3D landscape models.
The program was complemented by inspiring lectures on nanotechnology and genetic mutations. The day also included a discussion with a faculty student, information about opportunities for study abroad, and a tour of the university campus and the UJEP Scientific Library.
“We are very pleased that the second run of the event was so well received. The students left with enthusiasm and questions – which is exactly the purpose of these days: to show that science is not just theory, but a living, creative, and fascinating world,” said RNDr. Regina Herma, Ph.D., Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Science at UJEP for External and International Relations.
The event was part of a project to promote science and teaching, which is financially supported by the Ústí Region, which in this way supports the development of education, science, and technical fields in the region.
The interest in the interactive day confirms that young people are interested in the natural sciences if they are given the opportunity to experience them firsthand.
