Michal Syrový from CENAB won the award for the best poster at NanoOstrava 2025
Michal Syrový, PhD student at the Center for Nanomaterials and Biotechnology (CENAB) of the Faculty of Science at the University of Jan Evangelista Purkyně (UJEP), received a prestigious award for the best student poster at the 9th annual NanoOstrava 2025 international conference.
The international biennial “Nanomaterials and Nanotechnologies Meeting” (NOM) – NanoOstrava 2025 welcomed leading scientists from around the world to the Technical University of Ostrava from May 19 to 22, who shared the latest discoveries and innovations in the field of nanotechnology, energy storage, and sustainable energy sources. Key topics of the conference included sustainable energy and the transformation of its sources over time.
Mgr. Syrový presented his research focused on the development of nanofiber membranes for the efficient capture and potential conversion of carbon dioxide (CO₂) at the conference. Using scalable electrostatic spinning, he prepared fabrics from polyacrylonitrile (PAN) and cellulose acetate (AC) polymers with direct incorporation of amino compounds and zeolites, thereby significantly increasing the sorption capacity without the need for additional modifications. These materials represent an affordable and reusable solution with industrial potential. Another goal of the research is the photocatalytic conversion of captured CO₂ into usable hydrocarbons – this part is still in the development phase.
We warmly congratulate Michal Syrový and wish him many more successes, not only in his scientific work.
