Geography Teachers’ Day 2025 in the spirit of political geography and modern approaches to teaching

On Thursday, November 13, the Department of Geography of the Faculty of Science at the University of Jan Evangelista Purkyně (UJEP) in cooperation with the Center for Science Education Support organized the traditional Geography Teachers’ Day. The event, which took place on the UJEP campus (in the Multifunctional Center and the CPTO building), was attended by 70 people this year. The aim of the meeting was to strengthen the didactic skills of teachers and provide a space for sharing current trends in the field.

This year’s program focused primarily on political geography and geopolitics, a very topical issue that teachers have been calling for for a long time. The morning plenary lectures offered participants insight into current discourses and issues (geography of services, popular geopolitics).

The afternoon part consisted of optional workshops, which were very well received. Teachers could choose from practical workshops on project-based teaching or the use of web-based geographical and cartographic applications in teaching. We are very pleased with the great interest in the event and would like to thank all participants for their trust.
