Ústí nad Labem RobUL team flies to the prestigious robotics competition in the USA
High school students from the Ústí region are preparing for one of the biggest challenges of their career so far. This Sunday, the RobUL team will fly to Denver to participate in the prestigious FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) from March 19-22.
They will be competing against 50 teams from around the world to do their best to place in the regional round, which will determine who advances to the final competition in April 2025. Denver was chosen by the team from a wide range of venues hosting regional rounds of the competition this year. In total, there will be 90 of them around the world, most of them in the US.
The competition robot, which has to deal with complicated tasks inspired by the underwater environment, was created under the guidance of experts from UJEP, the Innovation Centre of the Ústí nad Labem Region and other schools and institutions. The students spent the last months designing, constructing and programming the machine, which will collect and place objects representing corals and will have to master the challenging manoeuvre of hanging on a metal structure.
“We will represent the Czech Republic as the second team at the competition in Denver, and the Ústí nad Labem region as the only one from the region. It is a great honour and a challenge for us,” says Tamara Klein, the guarantor of the Robotým activity for international competitions.
The activity and the RobUL team are under the umbrella of the Faculty of Science of UJEP, with the participation of the Innovation Centre of the Ústí nad Labem Region, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of UJEP and regional partners: Martin Vohánka, founder of the BLIŽKSOBĚ Foundation, Municipal Cultural Facilities in Litoměřice, HENNLICH, Malfini and NYYLO, among others.
With the suitcases packed and the team ready for the competition challenge, there is only one thing left to do – get on the plane and follow the dream. Let’s keep our fingers crossed!
