Our new BSc Applied Chemistry programme is ready to admit its first students
From the new academic year 2025/26 we are opening a new Bachelor’s degree programme in Applied Chemistry at our faculty, which is designed to meet the current needs of the chemical industry and modern trends in education. The programme will provide students with a comprehensive education in key chemical disciplines such as inorganic and organic chemistry, analytical chemistry, chemical engineering and technology.
“Our faculty has a long tradition in chemical education and close links with industrial partners, especially in the Ústí nad Labem region. The opening of the new Applied Chemistry programme is a response to the growing demand for experts in chemical fields,” says the Head of the Department of Chemistry at the Faculty of Science of UJEP and the guarantor of the study programme doc. Ing. Jaromír Havlica, Ph.D.
Emphasis on practical teaching is one of the main pillars of the new programme. From the first year, students will be involved in teaching in modern equipped laboratories, where they will gain not only theoretical knowledge, but also valuable practical experience. In addition, the study programme offers the opportunity to participate in excursions, internships and work placements in cooperation with leading chemical companies. Lectures and seminars conducted directly by experts in the field also contribute to the high level of education.
“Our goal is to provide students with the highest quality education,” says RNDr. Martin Švec, Ph.D., Vice Dean for Studies, “therefore we place great emphasis on linking theory with practice and close cooperation with industrial partners.”
Graduates of the Bachelor’s programme can continue their studies in the follow-up Master’s programme in Applied Chemistry, where they can choose between two specialisations. The first focuses on the synthesis, technology and analysis of chemical substances and materials, the second on the modelling of chemical processes and equipment. Both specialisations reflect the latest trends in the field and research needs.
The spectrum of graduates’ employment is wide. They will find their place in research laboratories in the development of new materials and technologies, in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries or in the field of environmental protection. They will also work in technical support or sales of chemical equipment and products. Thanks to their comprehensive training, they can also consider setting up their own business
in the chemical industry.
This year’s graduating seniors can already apply to study Applied Chemistry. In order to be admitted to the study, it is necessary to have completed secondary education with a high school diploma and to submit an application by the regular deadline, i.e. by 31 March 2025.
More information about the programme can be found on the website of the Department of Chemistry at the Faculty of Chemistry of UJEP.
