The “Dual Education in the Border Region” workshop will showcase experiences from Saxony
On March 20, a workshop and lecture on the topic “Dual Education in the Border Region” will take place at UJEP, led by Professor Jürgen Smettan from the Duale Hochschule Sachsen (DHSN) in Dresden. He will introduce participants to dual education using the example of DHSN’s long-standing experience in Saxony.
For more than 25 years, the Saxony Dual University (DHSN) has been educating students with direct ties to companies where they also work. Dual education serves as an inspiration not only for higher education in the Czech Republic but also for improving the quality of existing vocationally oriented study programs.
The workshop will take place in the MFC building, in classroom 2.28.
Detailed event program:
2:45 – 3:00 PM Welcome
3:00 – 3:40 PM Tour of the data analysis and simulation laboratory
3:40 – 4:00 PM Coffee break
4:00 PM – 5:30 PM LECTURE: Prof. Dr. phil. Jürgen Smettan
5:30 PM – 6:00 PM Q&A and discussion
The workshop is part of the project “Vocational Studies in the Border Region” (“PraStud”), in which our faculty is participating alongside the Faculty of Social and Economic Studies at UJEP. This Czech-Saxon project focuses on linking theory and practice in higher education, with the goal of promoting the development of dual study programs—that is, integrating academic study with practical experience directly in the field.
We are also collaborating on the project with the Technical University of Liberec and, in particular, with the Duale Hochschule Sachsen, which serves as an inspiring example of a functioning dual education system. It is with this institution that we share a long-standing history of cooperation.
The project is funded by the Interreg Czech Republic–Saxony 2021–2027 program.
