Training future teachers as a common theme. UJEP education specialists met at the Faculty of Science

How can we improve the training of future teachers and how can we share experiences and best practice amongst the faculties at UJEP? This was the very topic discussed by educationalists from the UJEP faculties responsible for training future teachers. Their latest joint meeting took place on 9 September at the UJEP Faculty of Science in the CPTO building.

The meeting was opened by the Head of the Centre for the Support of Science Education at the UJEP Faculty of Science, Assoc. Prof. PhDr. Kateřina Jančaříková, Ph.D. The participants were then welcomed by the Dean of the Faculty of Science at UJEP, Assoc. Prof. RNDr. Michal Varady, Ph.D., who also presented the new five-year integrated degree programme in STEM Teaching for Lower Secondary Schools, whose graduates will be qualified to teach in three subject areas.

The main topic of the meeting was the quality of training for future teachers and opportunities for its further development. Discussions centred, for example, on the results of the international PISA 2025 survey, on supporting the study skills of university students, and on the use of the Lesson Study method. Attention was also paid to the need for further pedagogical training for subject teachers involved in the training of future educators.

Teaching placements were another key topic. The pedagogy experts jointly explored ways to address practical issues related to their increasing scope and to securing suitable schools and supervising teachers. They therefore agreed to share information between faculties and to cooperate more closely in resolving any potential conflicts.
