2nd Symposium on Materials Science at Větruše
On November 6–7, 2025, the Faculty of Science of the University of Jan Evangelista Purkyně in Ústí nad Labem hosted the 2nd Symposium on Materials Science at the Větruše chateau.
The event was attended not only by the project partner, Dresden University of Technology, but also by Bergakademie Freiberg University of Technology, the Faculty of Nuclear Sciences and Engineering of the Czech Technical University in Prague, the Faculty of Health Studies of the Technical University of Liberec, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the UJEP, and the Faculty of Environment of the UJEP.
The event was opened by the rector of the UJEP, doc. RNDr. Jaroslav Koutský, Ph.D., and the dean of the Faculty of Science of the UJEP, doc. RNDr. Michal Varady, Ph.D. The introductory speeches were followed by presentations of the individual institutions, which outlined their research directions and opportunities for cooperation. The professional program was divided into thematic blocks devoted to, among other things, nano-bio interactions and cell co-cultivation strategies, modification and functionalization of biomaterials and implants, advanced electrochemistry and surface analysis of functional materials, and mechanics and dynamics of complex surfaces and granular systems.
The program also included awards for the best professional presentations: 1st place went to Eva Štěpanovská (Faculty of Science, UJEP), 2nd place to Vanessa Castro (TU Freiberg), and 3rd place to Anna Čimová (Faculty of Science, UJEP). Wenquian Dang (TU Freiberg) received an honorable mention.
The two-day event was complemented by a visit to the observatory in Teplice and an excursion to the CEMMTECH and CPTO research centers, which offered participants the opportunity to take a look behind the scenes of the modern laboratories at UJEP. More than 50 experts, researchers, and students participated in the symposium.
We would like to thank all our colleagues for their help in preparing and running the event, and we congratulate all the award winners!
