Research in the Human and Animal Behavior Laboratory – EthoLab
The Human and Animal Behavior Laboratory – EthoLab at the Department of Biology, Faculty of Science, UJEP, is dedicated to research at the intersection of ethology, evolutionary psychology, sexology, and field zoology.
The laboratory team uses a wide range of methods – from the analysis of facial expressions and physiological functions, through behavioral experiments and hormonal analyses, to the monitoring of wild animals using telemetry, camera traps, and thermal cameras.
The research also focuses on interdisciplinary topics such as partner relationships, dominance hierarchies, stress, selective behavior, and the issue of partner violence. The experimental work also includes the study of domestication and the perception of visual characteristics of animals, such as the distribution of spots.
The laboratory offers students access to unique materials and equipment, ranging from dermoplastic preparations and 3D models of archaeological finds to facilities for researching the history of zoology and molecular genetics.
EthoLab is a space for interdisciplinary collaboration, where behavioral sciences meet applied ethology, psychology, sociology, and behavioral economics.
