UJEP and Dresden University of Technology continue their cross-border strategic partnership

The Rector of Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem (UJEP), Doc. Jaroslav Koutský, Vice-Rector for Internationalization, Doc. Pavel Raška, and Head of External Relations, Ing. Gabriela Krečová, visited the Technical University of Dresden (TUD), where they were welcomed by Rector Prof. Ursula M. Staudinger and Vice-Rector for Technology Transfer and Internationalization Prof. Ronald Tetzlaff. The visit took place on the occasion of the extension of the memorandum of understanding between the two universities.

“TUD has been one of UJEP’s key strategic international partners for many years, and our mutual cooperation is evidenced by a number of successful research projects and educational initiatives ranging from technical to humanities fields,” said Jaroslav Koutský.

Current cooperation includes projects focused on the revitalization of watercourses in cities (ReBioClim), education in materials science (MaTun), the issue of society’s resilience to radicalization and polarization (re:demo), and other bilateral courses.

TUD is one of 10 German universities of excellence and has long been the most successful German university in obtaining patents. Despite the different sizes and starting conditions of the two universities, their geographical proximity and emphasis on the relevance of knowledge in everyday life are common themes.

“The fact that UJEP and TUD are strategic cross-border partners is an honor for us and a valuable opportunity to share inspiring approaches to creative activity and education that have a real impact on society and the environment,” said Pavel Raška.

On the part of UJEP, we can draw on a wealth of experience with research projects focused on the restoration of industrial and mining landscapes, as well as with the strategic projects currently being addressed by the Just Transition Fund. Despite certain differences between the two universities, it is clear that the partnership can be mutually beneficial. UJEP also sees its role in strengthening the knowledge society and cultural exchange in the Czech-Saxon border region.

We look forward to deepening our existing cooperation and exploring new topics and funding opportunities in the coming years.
