RobUL team brings back valuable experience from Denver
The RobUL team has returned from Denver, USA, where they took part in the prestigious FIRST Robotics Competition – specifically the FIRST Colorado 2025 regional round, which took place from 19 to 22 March at the Magness Arena at the University of Denver. There, he placed 49th in a strong international competition, far surpassing his lived experience.
Participation in the competition was an invaluable training for the entire team After months of intensive preparation – from robot design to construction to programming – high school students from the Ústí nad Labem region set out for the first time to measure their strengths against the world’s top teams in an environment where the emphasis is not only on technical excellence, but also on team spirit, communication skills and quick problem solving.
“Although RobUL did not make the playoffs this year, every game at the competition was an opportunity to learn, grow and explore new approaches and technologies. The students gained valuable experience that went beyond the normal classroom – they learned how to collaborate under pressure, present their ideas and adapt to rapidly changing conditions. These are exactly the skills that will play a crucial role in their further studies and future careers,” says Tamara Klein, Robotým activity sponsor for the international competitions.
It’s not just about results. The competition gave the team a glimpse into the world of the international science and technology community, meeting inspiring peers from different continents and making contacts that can lead to future collaborations. RobUL has become part of a global community of innovators – and that in itself is a huge achievement. More than 90,000 students from 30 countries around the world participate in the competition. However, there is no regional round in Europe, so European teams also participate in regional rounds in the USA.
The RobUL team is supported by the Faculty of Science of UJEP and cooperates with the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of UJEP, the Innovation Centre of the Ústí nad Labem Region, several secondary schools and experts from practice. This cooperation shows how the connection between academia and secondary education can lead to the development of top competences in young people.
The Denver experience will resonate not only with the team but also with the region for a long time to come. They are proof that projects with an international dimension can come out of the Ústí nad Labem Region. And that is the best reason to continue.
