RobUL team’s preparations for the trip to the USA are in full swing

The departure of the RobUL team to Denver in the USA is approaching and the team of twelve high school students from the Ústí nad Labem region, who are working on the construction of a robot according to this year’s international robotics competition FIRST Robotics Competition, intensified their preparations. The team no longer meets regularly once, but at least two to three times a week, including Saturdays and Sundays.

The assignment for this year’s competition is called REEFSCAPE, which is inspired by the underwater environment and presents a great challenge for the team. This is because the robots have to collect and place plastic cylinders (corals), in a four-level rack representing a reef. The next part of the task is ball handling, and the final stage of hanging themselves from a metal cage suspended from a chain, called the ‘Stage’. These tasks place high demands on construction, mechanical precision and team coordination.

Not only does the construction of the robot come to a head, everything needs to be arranged and organised outside the workshop. On Monday, February 10, a meeting was held between mentors, students and parents of RobUL team members to arrange the necessary details for the trip and stay in Colorado. Parents first learned information about the team’s trip and program in the U.S. and then visited the RobUL team workshops directly at the College of Science to see elements of the game arena and the robot under construction.

The RobUL team and their robot will participate in the regional round of the FIRST Robotics Competition in Denver, Colorado, USA, from 19 to 22 March 2025. The team members are only a month away from flying to the USA. Fingers crossed that the team will prepare for the competition in the best possible way!
