The Werner von Siemens Prize is seeking the best student and research papers
Have you successfully completed a bachelor’s or master’s thesis, are you conducting interesting research, or do you know someone whose work deserves recognition? You can now submit your work to the 29th Werner von Siemens Award. The competition is open to students, early-career researchers and academic staff in technical and natural science disciplines at Czech universities.
This year, the winners across seven categories will share a total of one million crowns. In the case of bachelor’s and master’s theses and doctoral dissertations, the students’ supervisors and tutors will also receive an award and a financial prize alongside the students.
You can recognise both the work and the person behind it
The competition offers several ways to recognise exceptional work or individuals:
Most Significant Result in Basic Research – for individuals or research teams,
Best Academic Staff Member,
Best Bachelor’s Thesis – the top three entries are recognised, including the thesis supervisors,
Best doctoral thesis – the top three places are recognised, including the supervisors,
Special award for outstanding quality of research by a female scientist,
Best graduate thesis addressing topics related to Industry 4.0,
Best graduate thesis addressing smart infrastructure and energy.
Entries can be submitted via the website www.cenasiemens.cz by 30 November 2026. The general public may also submit nominations. If a nominated candidate wins, the nominator will receive a prize of 10,000 CZK.
Thanks to its history, scope and the size of the financial prizes, the Werner von Siemens Prize ranks among the most prestigious independent awards of its kind in the Czech Republic. The competition is organised by Siemens Czech Republic in collaboration with leading representatives of universities and the Czech Academy of Sciences, who also act as guarantors for the individual categories and participate in the assessment of the submitted entries. The awards are held under the patronage of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport and the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
