This Saturday we’re celebrating International Mathematics Day—come play at the Faculty of Science at UJEP
The Department of Mathematics at the Faculty of Science of Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem invites the public to celebrate International Mathematics Day – π Day, which will take place on Saturday, March 14, at the Center for Natural Sciences and Technical Fields (CPTO). Visitors can look forward to an afternoon full of fun mathematical activities, games, and workshops for both children and adults.
The date of March 14 is no coincidence—it refers to the well-known mathematical constant π (pi), whose approximate value is 3.14. That is precisely why mathematicians and math enthusiasts around the world celebrate this day as a festival of mathematics.
Visitors can look forward to lectures, building Leonardo’s bridge, origami, math games and contests, and an escape room, among other activities. The event is designed to present mathematics as a playful and creative discipline that can entertain children, students, and adults alike.
“We want to show that mathematics isn’t just about formulas and calculations, but also about discovery, logic, and the joy of problem-solving. Our activities are designed so that truly anyone can try them out,” says Jana Kasperová, M.A., speaking on behalf of the event organizers from the Department of Mathematics.
The program runs from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on the 7th floor of the CPTO building on the UJEP Campus.
Everyone is welcome, from school groups to the general public of all ages.
Admission to the event is free.
