We invite you to a photography exhibition by Zdeněk Picpauer: Landscape That Breathes
J. E. Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem will present a new photography exhibition by Zdeněk Picpauer, a student of the Faculty of Art and Design at UJEP, winner of the “Earth and Climate” photo competition. His winning photo of bees in his own garden, which impressed the jury and the public, became the impetus for organizing the first independent author’s presentation. The exhibition “Landscape that Breathes” is being created in cooperation with the Faculty of Environment and the Faculty of Science at UJEP and will be located in the CPTO building on the university campus. The opening ceremony of the exhibition will take place on Wednesday, December 3 at 1:30 p.m.
The selection of more than thirty photographs connects authentic moments of the author’s stay in nature and his close relationship with the landscape. “For me, each photograph represents a specific moment when I was in direct contact with the surrounding landscape. I chose images that carry a strong personal experience and an authentic atmosphere of the situation,” explains the author.
According to Zdeněk Picpauer, the most powerful images in the exhibition may include, for example, Stained Glass of Nature, taken in the early morning hours among the blades of grass in the family garden. Visitors will also likely be interested in the photograph In Prague, which captures wildlife right in the capital, and the minimalist image Untitled, which leaves room for the viewer’s personal interpretation.
“I photograph with a combination of a planned approach and spontaneous moments. Some shots were created unplanned, and it is these spontaneous moments that have the greatest value and magic,” adds Zdeněk Picpauer. According to him, photography is a means of documenting the beauty and fragility of nature, which is increasingly distant from modern man.
“The goal of our cooperation is to inspire students and the public to be more sensitive to the landscape and to show how photography can be a bridge between art and science,” says the Vice-Dean for External Relations of the Faculty of Environmental Sciences at UJEP, doc. Pavel Krystyník.
“At UJEP, we have long been trying to create an environment where students can develop and share their talents. This exhibition is a beautiful example of how the university can support young authors so that their work does not remain only in teaching, but also enters the public space,” adds RNDr. Regina Herma, Ph.D., Vice-Dean for External and International Relations at the Faculty of Environmental Sciences at UJEP.
The exhibition opening will take place on December 3, 2025 at 1:30 p.m. The exhibition will be open for free in the lobby of the CPTO building until the end of February 2026.
