Our student contributed to the third version of cyber fairy tales.
Cyberfairy tales are stories that teach children and adults how to live safely in the digital world. Under the auspices of the Cyber Security Center, z. ú., the project of the same name brings modern adaptations of classic fairy tales with an important educational dimension.
In August 2025, the third version of Cyber Fairy Tales was released and ceremoniously presented in September. Cyber Fairy Tales 3 expands the portfolio of stories with completely new stories reflecting the risks of the digital world based on classic fairy tales – About a fat boy, Cook in the pot! and Twelve Months story.
Their author is a student of teaching, Bc. Gabriela Dědková, who worked on the project under the supervision of RNDr. Jan Krejčí, Ph.D., assistant professor at the Department of Informatics.
“Cyberfairy tales show that even seemingly complex topics such as cyber security can be presented to children in a playful way. It’s great that our student got involved in the project—it proves that UJEP educates teachers who can reach the new generation with modern tools,” said RNDr. Jan Krejčí, Ph.D., about the project.
The head of the Department of Informatics at the Faculty of Science, UJEP, RNDr. Jiří Škvor, Ph.D., adds: “We are proud that our students are involved in projects that have a real social impact. Cyberfairy tales are a wonderful example of how the worlds of IT, education, and prevention can be creatively connected.”
Why cyberfairy tales?
Cyber Fairy Tales use well-known stories that are transferred to a virtual environment. In them, good and evil clash again, but readers learn how to behave safely on the internet and how to react if they encounter inappropriate behavior. The project opens up important topics that can be discussed at home with the family and at school.
Cyber Fairy Tales also serve as a tool for parents and teachers. They contain explanations of technical terms and methodological sheets that help educators incorporate cyber security topics into their teaching.
Cooperation between UJEP and Cyber Security Center
The Department of Informatics at the Faculty of Science of UJEP has been paying attention to the issue of cyber security for a long time. That is why it was involved in the projects of the Cyber Security Center, even before its official establishment in 2021. Until then, these activities were carried out under the auspices of the Cyber Security Working Group of the Czech branch of AFCEA, where projects focused on research, education, and awareness in the field of information and communication technology protection were jointly prepared and developed. The history of joint cooperation is thus almost eight years long and represents a stable, systematic, and long-term partnership that has significantly contributed to the establishment and subsequent development of the Center and the university department.
Cyber Fairy Tales are part of a broader package of activities of the Cyber Security Center, which includes, for example, the Cyber Security Competition, whose national finals will be hosted by UJEP in April 2026. Other activities include the Cyber Moments project with short interactive videos and quizzes, the Cyber Article competition, and the annual Cyber Award of the Year. These projects show that a playful and creative form of education can significantly contribute to the development of online safety awareness.
The third Kyberpohádky (Cyber Fairy Tales) are available in book form through the e-shop, while previous versions are still available online, including audio versions and methodological materials for teachers.
