We are launching a new educational program for future teachers of natural sciences

The Faculty of Science at Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem is launching a new accredited educational program in October 2025 entitled “Pedagogy Studies for Secondary School Teachers and High School Teachers.” The program is primarily intended for professionals in the fields of biology, physics, chemistry, computer science, or mathematics who want to teach at elementary or secondary schools but lack the necessary teaching qualifications.

The program responds to the long-term shortage of qualified teachers of science and technical subjects and also caters to those who want to become teachers without having to complete a full teacher training program. The education is structured so that it is manageable even for working people—classes are held in person on weekends, spread over three semesters.

“We want to offer a high-quality and accessible path to teaching qualifications to anyone who has professional knowledge and a desire to teach. Our program is designed to suit both recent graduates and those who are already working in education or considering a career change,” says Martin Švec, Ph.D., Vice-Dean for Studies at the Faculty of Science, UJEP.

The program includes comprehensive training in pedagogy, didactics, and practice. The program concludes with a final exam and the defense of a written thesis. Graduates receive a certificate that is fully compliant with Act No. 563/2004 Coll. on pedagogical staff, which entitles them to teach at the second level of elementary school and at secondary school.

Electronic applications can be submitted until September 19, 2025. Classes are held in the modern environment of the UJEP university campus in Ústí nad Labem.
