Geographers will represent the Faculty of Science at the Student Scientific Conference
The team of the project of the Department of Geography will represent the Faculty of Science of UJEP at Thursday’s final of the Student Scientific Conference 2025. Martin Bartůněk, a PhD student of the Department of Geography and a member of the team led by Jan D. Bláha (KGEO) and Petr Trahorsch (CPPV, KGEO), will present “Critical places in higher cartographic education: analysis and initial interpretation of the results of a longitudinal study”. The research, which involved two students of the Master’s degree Petr Hladík and Matouš Hrubý, focused on the connection between didactics and cartography.
The head of the research team doc. Bláha says: “It may sound like a platitude, but recognizing problems in the educational process is the first, yet absolutely crucial step in trying to learn from mistakes and improve. And when people from all over the Czech Republic and from the professional community get involved, this path to improvement can be even more effective (…) We really appreciate the opportunity to present the results of the project to those outside our faculty.”
Do you want to know what good are written tests, which have become a study nightmare for many of us? What has been giving students problems in cartography education for a long time? How can pedagogical concepts, including statistical analyses of student performance, be linked to professional cartography? What do professional geographers have in common with surveyors, geography teachers and soldiers? Then come to the Red Auditorium of the MFC UJEP on Thursday, March 20 at 4:00 pm! There you will find out;-)
The 8 best projects from all faculties in the humanities, polytechnic, pedagogical and behavioural sections will be presented at the conference. You too can support and choose the winner in the category of the Public Award for the best PhD project!
