Faculty of Science UJEP hosts international origami meeting this weekend.

The 17th International Origami Meeting will take place on October 18-20, 2024 at the Center for Science and Technology (CPTO) at the Faculty of Science, UJEP. It will bring a unique weekend full of folding, inspiration and foreign guests to Ústí nad Labem.

Visitors can look forward to a rich program full of workshops, lectures and performances on the topic of connecting origami with mathematics under the baton of the Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Science, UJEP. The tradition of connecting origami with science and mathematics will continue this year. The program will include three professional presentations on the topic of origami and mathematics, in which experts will present the mathematical laws hidden behind this art.

The main star of this year’s event will be Paolo Bascetta from Italy, a renowned origami artist who is known for his innovative and technically demanding models. Bascetta will lead several workshops in which he will teach participants both basic and advanced origami techniques.

“We are very pleased that this year we can welcome such an important personality as Paolo Bascetta. His patience and willingness to pass on his knowledge will be a real benefit to the participants,” says Dr. Jiří Přibyl from the Department of Mathematics and one of the main organizers of the event.

The meeting program will be diverse and will take place in parallel in two rooms so that each visitor can find what interests them most. Participants can look forward to a wide range of workshops led by experienced lecturers from the Czech Republic and abroad. The workshops will be accessible to all age categories and skill levels.

The event will also include a unique exhibition of origami models, which will present works from creators from all over the world to visitors. “This year’s exhibition will offer beautiful, and most importantly, captivating origami models, some of which are completely breathtaking,” the organizers share with enthusiasm. This exhibition will undoubtedly appeal not only to experienced origami artists, but also to the general public.

“Last year’s event was a great success, and we believe that this year’s will be just as successful. We are excited about the rich program and the fact that we will once again welcome both domestic and international guests,” said Dr. Regina Herma, Vice-Dean for External and International Relations at UJEP, who will officially open the meeting.
