Science Talks: Martin Švec on physics, teaching and his new role as Dean
After a short summer break, Science Talks returns with a guest who knows the Faculty of Science at UJEP inside out. Martin Švec works at the Department of Physics, has long been involved in the faculty’s management, and will become its new dean in November.
In this interview, we look back at his journey into physics, his career in teaching, and the philosophical questions that led him to the natural sciences. We also discuss why he enjoys working with people, what he gains from his students, and why, for him, leading the faculty is more than just an administrative role.
We also discuss what sort of faculty he wants to lead, why open communication is important to him, where he sees scope for streamlining day-to-day operations, and why, in his view, changes at the faculty should be made thoughtfully and in small steps. And as our guest is a physicist, teacher and climber, we’ll also be discussing the balance between work, study, exercise and time for loved ones.
Listen to the new episode of Science Talks with Martin Švec about physics, teaching, the people at the faculty and the role he will take on from November.
You can find our podcast on Spotify and SoundCloud under the ‘UJEP Podcasts’ banner, and later also on the faculty’s YouTube channel, where you can watch it with video.
