The Phycology 2026 conference is fast approaching. Three days dedicated to research into algae and cyanobacteria
Next week, the Faculty of Science at UJEP will host a gathering of experts in the field of algae and cyanobacteria research. From 23 to 25 September 2026, the Centre for Natural Sciences and Technical Disciplines (CPTO) will host The 67th Meeting of the Czech Phycological Society. The three-day programme will feature lectures, a poster session and opportunities for expert discussions and networking amongst scientists from the Czech Republic and abroad.
This year’s event will offer a varied programme showcasing a range of current topics in modern phycology. Participants can look forward to specialist presentations on topics such as the ecology and biodiversity of algae and cyanobacteria, their evolution, physiology and applications in various fields of research. The programme will also include a poster session, providing a forum for presenting research findings and engaging in mutual discussion.
Three keynote lectures
The programme will also be enriched by three keynote lectures from leading experts.
On Wednesday 23 September, RNDr. Dora Čertnerová, Ph.D., from Charles University and the University of Innsbruck, will speak. Her research focuses, amongst other things, on the genome size of microalgae and its relationship to the biology and ecological requirements of these organisms.
Thursday’s keynote lecture will be delivered by Prof. Dr. Nils Kröger from Dresden University of Technology, who has long been engaged in research into, amongst other things, the biomineralisation of diatoms.
On Friday, the conference will be brought to a close by Tyler J. Kohler, Ph.D., from Charles University. His research focuses, amongst other things, on diatom communities in glacial streams and how their diversity and functioning are affected by glacial retreat.
Ústí nad Labem will come alive with phycology for three days
The 67th Meeting of the Czech Phycological Society will offer not only a scientific programme, but also opportunities to meet, exchange experiences and forge new collaborations. For students and early-career researchers, the conference is also an opportunity to present their own findings and gain experience in presenting scientific work in an international setting.
The conference is jointly organised by the Faculty of Science at UJEP and the Czech Algological Society. The official language of the conference is English.
