The 13th annual CRYTUR Award for the best thesis in materials science has kicked off
The CRYTUR Award is presented to the authors of the best master’s theses in the field of materials science. The competition has been running continuously since 2014. For the current 13th edition, theses defended between October 1, 2025, and September 30, 2026, are eligible for submission. Through this competition, the organizers support graduates’ efforts to apply their acquired knowledge in practice and highlight innovative approaches. Awards are also given to thesis advisors. Applications may be submitted until September 30, 2026.
The competition is open to master’s students at Czech and Slovak universities specializing in materials science (the study of the physical and chemical properties of materials, materials processing and preparation technologies, and the application of materials in physical sciences).
Entries for the CRYTUR 2026 Award must be submitted by a supervisor-student pair who have jointly presented an exceptional master’s thesis focused on materials science for defense.
Basic Information:
Theses defended between October 1, 2025, and September 30, 2026, are eligible for submission.
Theses may be written in Czech or English
The following must be submitted for evaluation:
an application form, an abstract of the thesis, and a sworn statement of authorship and work (printed or in PDF format, according to the university’s rules)
The application must include a list of publications and presentations related to the thesis
September 30, 2026 – deadline for submitting applications
Each thesis will undergo at least three rounds of evaluation by experts from the scientific and research team at Crytur spol. s r. o.
Evaluation criteria:
experimental section
presentation of results and formulation of conclusions
systematic approach
relevance
the quality of the theoretical section and its relevance to solving the problem
presentation of results (publications, conferences, lectures)
practical applicability of the topic
formal presentation of the work
Awards:
student: 40,000 CZK
advisor: 10,000 CZK
A total of 120,000 Kč will be distributed among the winners.
The results of the competition will be announced in December 2026.
