The Next Episode of Science Talks: Josef Novák on Ion Technologies, the Tandetron Accelerator, and the Journey of a Young Scientist

In the latest episode of the Science Talks podcast, we spoke with Josef Novák from the Department of Physics at the Faculty of Science at UJEP, who specializes in applied ion technologies and materials research. In the interview, he describes his journey into nanotechnology, explains what ion beams are, and how they can be used not only to analyze materials but also to specifically alter their properties.

You’ll learn how work at the Tandetron laboratory operates, why collaboration between institutions is important, and what an internship at a foreign research center can offer. The conversation also touched on the awards Josef has received in recent years (check out the profile from the Student Science Conference, which he won this year), the team aspect of scientific work, the popularization of physics, and the preconceptions the public often brings to topics of nuclear physics and accelerators.

Toward the end of the interview, the conversation takes a more personal turn: his PhD, future career plans, student grants, and Japan, where part of his scientific and travel experiences are rooted.

Listen to the new episode about what current research at the intersection of physics, materials science, and modern technologies looks like.
