Members of the Department of Geography contributed to the 2025 Audit of the Czech Republic’s Education System
Representatives of the Department of Geography at the Faculty of Science, UJEP, actively participated in the recent Audit of the Czech Education System 2025, which was conducted by EDUin. The expert reviews provided by our academics thus directly contributed to the broader societal discussion on the problems and challenges currently facing the Czech education system.
Mgr. Petr Meyer, Ph.D., served as a reviewer for an important analysis titled “Full Classrooms and Empty Desks: Demographic Challenges for the Czech Education System.” This document examines in detail the uneven distribution of educational institution capacity across regions, the looming decline in the number of children in rural areas, and, conversely, the shortage of spots in large cities.
Mgr. Petr Trahorsch, Ph.D., served as a reviewer for the analysis Textbooks in the Czech Education System: Why Should the State Regulate Their Quality? The analysis reflects the current state of the textbook market, their quality, and planned conceptual changes by the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports in cooperation with the National Pedagogical Institute.
The findings of the audit did not remain merely on paper. On Tuesday, March 10, 2026, an official presentation of the audit results took place at the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic, in which Dr. Petr Trahorsch actively participated. The importance of this event was underscored by the attendance of top political leaders and key stakeholders in education. In addition to senators and some members of the Chamber of Deputies, the presentation in the Senate was attended by the Minister of Education, Youth, and Sports, representatives of cities and municipalities, and representatives of organizations active in education (e.g., the National Pedagogical Institute, representatives of the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports’ departments, and others).
The analyses, which were prepared with the participation of members of our department, also attracted media attention. The topic was also featured in the main news broadcast on TV Nova:
Chaos reigns in school textbooks. The Ministry is preparing changes
Rural schools are threatened by declining enrollment. In cities, on the other hand, there is a shortage of spots
