Today is International Women and Girls in Science Day

Today’s date marks the International Day of Women and Girls in Science. 11 February highlights the crucial role of women in the scientific world and seeks to promote their involvement in research. Our faculty has many outstanding women scientists and students who may have yet to pursue a scientific career. We would like to take this opportunity today to return to the Rector’s Awards for 2024.

The Rector’s Prize for Students for outstanding achievements in the field of creative activities in engineering, science and economics was awarded to Mgr. Eva Štěpanovská, a student of the doctoral study programme Applied Ion Technology at the Faculty of Science, UJEP.

Mgr. Eva Štěpanovská deals with modifications of graphene-like materials for applications in the field of lithium batteries. She has been involved in major research projects of OP JAK and GA CR, she also participates in a Japanese project with Nagaoka University of Technology. For her work she also received the J. Hlávka Award for talented young scientists.

The Rector’s Prize of UJEP for excellence in the field of technical and natural sciences was awarded to prof. Ing. Zdeňka Kolská, Ph.D., who works at the Centre for Nanomaterials and Biotechnology of the Faculty of Science at UJEP.

Prof. Zdeňka Kolská has intensive project and publication activities in the fields of nanotechnology, materials science and physical chemistry. Currently, she is the head of a team of experts from the Faculty of Science of UJEP, which, in a consortium of eight other members, participates in the prestigious project awarded in the OP JAK Top Research call under the acronym AMULET. It is also involved in a number of other projects.
