L´ORÉAL-UNESCO call for young women scientists

The L’ORÉAL-UNESCO “For Women in Science” programme is launching a call for young female scientists. This project aims to highlight the key role of women in the scientific world and overcome the prejudices that still hold them back. A total of CZK 600 000 will be distributed among three talented female scientists. Applications are open until 31 December 2024.

The talent programme “For Women in Science” was first implemented in the Czech Republic in 2006 and annually rewards promising female scientists selected by an expert jury. The programme cooperates with the Czech Commission for UNESCO and the Czech Academy of Sciences. Since the beginning of the programme, 50 women have been awarded.

The basic criteria for meeting the conditions of the call are as follows:

Ph.D. degree.
The program is open to women scientists in the following scientific fields: mathematics, computer science and computer science, chemistry, physics, biology, biomedical and environmental sciences, and other technical disciplines and natural sciences. The complete list can be found HERE.
Age maximum 40 years (inclusive).
Scientific project carried out in the Czech Republic.
Czech nationality or foreign nationality if the scientist has been working in Czech science for at least one year (more information can be found HERE).
Application deadline: 31 December 2024

The L’ORÉAL-UNESCO Talent Programme “For Women in Science” was established in Paris in 1998 to support women scientists. The programme aims to recognise the achievements of established women scientists and the impact of their professional activities on society today, but also to provide support for young women scientists at the start of their careers. Since its inception, it has spread to many countries around the world and has honoured more than 4 100 women from 110 countries.

Last year’s winners were the following three Czech women scientists:

Mgr. Kateřina Kopalová, Ph.D. from the Department of Ecology of the Faculty of Science of Charles University and the Botanical Institute of the CAS.
Ing. Monika Kučeráková, Ph.D. from the Institute of Physics of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic.
Mgr. Kateřina Sam, Ph.D., Head of the Department of Ecology and the Laboratory of Multitrophic Interactions of the Institute of Entomology of the Biological Centre of the CAS and head of the research team at the Faculty of Science of the University of South Bohemia.
