Preparations are in full swing. The 78th Chemists’ Congress begins this Monday
The 78th Congress of Chemists will begin on Monday 7 September 2026 at Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem. After twenty years, the most significant professional gathering of Czech and Slovak chemists is thus returning to Ústí nad Labem. The four-day programme will feature specialist lectures and presentations, meetings between scientists across generations and disciplines, opportunities for young researchers, and chances to forge new collaborations.
The Congress is taking place in the year in which UJEP marks the 35th anniversary of its foundation. It also coincides with the 170th anniversary of the founding of SPOLCHEMIE in Ústí nad Labem. The return of the Congress to a region with a long tradition of the chemical industry, research and education thus takes on symbolic significance.
The programme will also feature competitions and awards for both young and experienced scientists, including the SHIMADZU 2026 Prize, the ČEZ Foundation Prize, the UJEP Rector’s Prize, and prizes from the Deans of the Faculty of Science, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and the Faculty of Environmental Studies at UJEP, amongst others.
The 78th Congress of Chemists is held under the patronage of the Rector of UJEP, Assoc. Prof. RNDr. Jaroslav Koutský, Ph.D., the Mayor of the Statutory City of Ústí nad Labem, PhDr. Ing. Petr Nedvědický, and the Governor of the Ústí nad Labem Region, Mgr. Richard Brabec.
