We look forward to seeing you at the Science Fair
We’ll be back again this year at the Science Fair—the largest popular science event in the Czech Republic. The Czech Academy of Sciences has been organizing the Science Fair since 2015. You can visit this year’s event from June 4 to 6 at the PVA EXPO Prague exhibition center in Letňany, Prague. UJEP and our faculty will be there. You’ll find us at booth no. 94 in Hall 1.
The Science Fair explores science in all its forms, offering visitors the most interesting aspects of the natural sciences, engineering, the humanities, and the social sciences. Admission to the fair is free.
Once again this year, the Science Fair will feature a booth from J. E. Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem, and the UJEP Faculty of Science will definitely be there! You can find us from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in Hall 1 at Booth No. 94.
The Departments of Biology, Physics, and Computer Science at the UJEP Faculty of Science have prepared a specialized and highly varied entertainment program for this year’s fair visitors. On Thursday and Friday, the Department of Biology will take you on a journey into the fascinating world of insects—masters of camouflage—and introduce you to members of the order of stick insects. You’ll see with your own eyes what cryptic morphology is—the ability to blend in with the surrounding environment so perfectly that you can’t tell an insect from a leaf or twig.
On Friday and Saturday, you’ll experience what happens when we change the pressure around us. Thanks to experiments by the Department of Physics, you’ll see what happens to balloons when the surrounding air disappears, and you’ll learn about the unexpected behavior of water at low pressure.
You’ll also learn how much the air above our heads weighs, as well as other interesting facts about a vacuum. Come check out the vacuum experiments, which will end on a sweet note.
To wrap things up, the Department of Computer Science has prepared an interactive exhibit for Saturday’s visitors focused on the real-time generation of physiological biosignals, which visitors will be able to customize via a tablet or iPad using an open-source app.
Come experience science firsthand!
